Product Development: the Hoffman Housing
A good example of innovation at NPP is the development of the “Hoffman Housing”, a bi-metal sensor housing designed to cut cost without sacrificing function. For several years the brass market was experiencing sharp price increases – which had an adverse effect on supplied component piece prices. Taking the initiative our team designed, produced and delivered prototype samples of the Hoffman Housing to our customer. This housing dramatically reduced the total content of the more expensive and heavier brass alloy while maintaining the critical thermal performance of the temperature sensor housing probe. The Hoffman Housing lead to the development of an all-aluminum version that offered a significant cost advantage over prior housing designs.
